Interstellar

Interstellar

Length:  Almost 3 hours

Actors:  Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway(New Cat Woman), Michael Caine(‘Alfred’ New Batmans), and a funny robot

Trailer and thoughts: The movie looks pretty sweet but I hope we just didn’t see all the cool things in the trailer because the movie is almost 3 hours long….woof. But if I know Christopher Nolan movies and that dude loves his action and his big budgeted movies (i.e. Dark Knights&Man of Steel) I doubt he’ll let us down.

Plot: Jump into a spaceship, fly through a worm-hole, look for another habitable planet and save civilization.

The Dude’s Review:  Good….God…I don’t even know how to review this epic piece of Blahhh…de…Freakin’….Blahhhh. This movie was very well written and very well directed and very well funded and it left my bladder verrrrrryyy freakin’ full by the end of the show! This movie was pretty predictable if you know anything about the theory of ‘relativity’ and if you don’t you’ll be in for a wild ride I would guess so. I think what I don’t like about the movie is that it tries to explain everything hence it being 3 hours long. It had a few nuggets of classic Sci-Fi cheese in it but not enough for the dude, but it did give me some flashbacks to college when I was smoking some Thai sticks with some friends and having some heavy conversations about space travel and talking about the relativity of time. Having said all that: If I was sitting on a spaceship and I could only save 3 Movies between Apollo 13, StarTrek(Newest one), Spaceballs, and Interstellar the chances are good that interstellar gets blown out the waste disposal shaft. Like I said it was good movie but not great one, so if you see it in theatres ‘go pee’ when they leave earth and dock with the space-station because otherwise if you don’t the movie will probably relatively be on dvd by the time you reach the credits 😉

Verdict: See it sometime (Theatres or Rental)

Dracula Untold

dracula untold

Dracula Untold

Length: Hour and a Half Tops

Actors: Luke Evans(Zeus from  Immortals) Sarah Gadon(Mega-Babe)

Trailer & Thoughts: Trailer looked freakin’ awesome because if a shit-ton of bats in the shape of a fist smashing into a marching army isn’t awesome then I don’t know what is! Then I looked on rotten tomatoes and they gave it a 24% “rotten rating” so I put this movie on the back burner for awhile and “WOW” check out the dude’s review.

Plot: Sometimes it takes a monster to fight evil, and Dracula not a monster will soon be forced to watch his kingdom fall and his love ones taken from him so he chooses a dark alternative path that could save his world or destroy it even more. The game is about to begin……

The Dude’s Review: I don’t wanna do this movie over justice but it was sweeeet! That’s right Ladies and Gentleman 4 E’s it was: Exciting, Electrifying, Enticing, and Evolving. The storyline was pretty decent and flowing but the things the director pulled off in this movie we’re awesome. I always kind of wondered what it would be like to have vampire powers myself and director(Gary Shore) kinda gave us some insight to what it would be like, so thanks Gary! I also really enjoyed the sound and special effects of this movie, and while they we’re both kinda over the top they worked beautifully with each other and staged some of the coolest scenes I’ve witnessed in awhile. I mean who doesn’t like 1 guy versus 1000 soldiers that have swords? I know I do, especially when the 1 guy wins! I could blabber on about this movie all day so I’ll just try to sum it up for you. The acting I would call just Ok, but the sound, the scenery, the special effects and the storyline are all rock solid. If you check it out in theatres you’d probably say: “Damn that had some cool stuff in it, I’d definitely watch it again for sure”

Verdict: See it, buy it

Notes:

“This is one of those movies that will go in your movie library because you can watch it over and over again”

“If you gotta go on a date, take her to this one because it has enough of a love story line to get the job done and you’ll both be entertained, plus the movie will let you know when it’s time to watch in case you’re busy making your move”

John Wick

john wick

John Wick

Length:  A little less than 2 hours

Actors: Keanu Reeves(Neo), William Dafoe(the good guy leader from platoon), Ian McShane(best voice in the business)

Trailer & Thoughts: Hey this movie looks pretty sweet! Legendary hitman forced back into a life of corruption and evil deeds. Looks like a lot of action and a cool storyline, so I’ll definitely check it out.

Plot: Former hitman seeks revenge on punkass(and anybody who gets in his way) that killed his dog that was a gift from his beloved late wife.

The Dude’s Review: I’m an action Nut and this movie had a ton of action so I should like it right? Sorta, Kinda, not really….The movie had an intriguing story line but all the action sequences seemed a bit out of focus, too dark, and just a hair to slow. It’s like they tried putting Keanu Reeves in a Jason Statham movie and he just couldn’t keep the pace or keep the portrayal of a badass,  but I’ll give them this: they didn’t let up on the action. If you like guns, head shots and some fast cars you’ll love this movie because it had an almost videogame-like feel to it and throw in a ton of horrible kung-fu/mma moves and you have the movie John Wick. I don’t wanna knock this movie around too much because it was entertaining but it just had too much cheese and lame editing tricks for me in some scenes. My last thought on this movie is that it was definitely made to make a great trailer and you probably could make 30 great trailers from this movie but it was all the same stuff throughout the movie. If you go see it, you’ll probably say: “Whoa that was a lot of action! The ending was stupid but I’m glad it’s over with”

Verdict: Catch an early matinee or wait till redbox

Fury

Length: A little over 2 hours

Actors: Brad Pitt, My man Shane from (the walking dead) A teary eyed Shia Lebouf, A funny Mexican dude, & the machine

Plot: The tank fury can it be stopped? Maybe but even then it’s still a Nazi killing machine!  America is winning the war but it doesn’t feel like it and this unit of tested tank veterans is pressing on into the action but now they have a greenhorn amongst them and they are running low on patience and time.

The Dude’s Review: If you’re looking for Inglorious Bastards with a tank that can whip the whole German army’s ass you’re probably gonna have a slight let down, but this movie paints a pretty damn good picture of what it probably looked like back in the day of world war II down to every little detail. The special effects were awesome on both big and small scales. The casting was also pretty good but some of the acting was a little bit overkill and somehow it made the dialogue a little bland at times. The writer/director tried tying in a cheesy background story about a young soldier who would rather die than kill but would eventually become a nazi killer by the end of the movie. I liked the movie but still crave to see what the Inglorious Bastards could’ve done with Ol’Fury. All-in-all it was a very solid war movie and if you check it out in the theatre you’ll probably say: “I’d probably watch that again but definitely when it’s on dvd or available online.“

Verdict: Go see it if you like war movies but for the casual consumer wait till its released on dvd/online

A Walk among the tombstones

Length: About 2hrs long and it felt like it

Actors: Liam Neeson and a bunch of other guys

Plot: Physco Paths extorting drug traffickers out of their money by kidnapping their loved ones, and they can’t call the cops because they’re drug lords…Duh! So who do they call? Mr. Badass former cop Liam Neeson that’s who!

The Dude’s Review: The first minute and half was intense, crazy, wild and action packed! The next 1hr & 45mins was slowww and had weird semi-supposed-to-be-spooky music playing from time to time as Liam was gathering clues to who the Phyco Paths were. Liam knows his role and plays it well but the director and writer should have done a better job using Liam’s Kickass ability at which they did in the first 90seconds of the movie and that was it, and they made the bad guys totally weird and sadistic and if your into that sorta thing you’ll probably be disappointed too because they don’t show any gruesome scenes just cliffhangers or maybe small hill-hangers instead. I can’t abide and say the movie was bad because it was interesting but to slow for the dude, especially when I was hoping for a darker and grittery take on the movie ‘taken’.  All-in-all if you check it out you’ll probably say: “I’m glad I saw that but I probably won’t watch it again”

Verdict: Rent or wait till Netflix streams it

Rolling Stone Score: “Liam goes through this movie in kind of an old-school way, taking care of all the creeps that are in New York. But it doesn’t have that zip.”
